Pray for the People in Tennessee

29 Sep

All of The Squire’s family lives in areas that are flooded – two sisters live in Asheville, NC, and one in Newport, TN.

We did hear from his sister in Newport, and she said they have no running water or electricity. A friend brought her some bottled water, but she is “scrounging” water for her dog and to flush the toilet. the forecast is for more rain – oh, joy – tomorrow and Monday, so she will put out pots and pans to catch rainwater. It is impossible to get out of town; there are no bridges left, and most roads are blocked by fallen trees. Of course, if residents can’t get out, help and supplies can’t get in. She said she has plenty of food in her pantry and freezer, but no way to cook it.

Asheville is in even worse straits. One sister lives on the side of a hill, the other in a valley with a stream. At this point the cell towers are also down, so other than the news reports, we don’t have any idea what the story is there, but what we see is bad enough.

Pray for us all!

Hitting the ‘like’ button is a show of support, not taking pleasure in their predicament. I hope all will soon improve – we have flooding in parts of the country, too, but without a hurricane.

If your sister has a Facebook account & you are still able to get in touch with her, tell her to go to the page Newport, TN. Flood Assistance/Resources. She should be able to find help there.

I’ve spoken to her by phone, but they don’t went have Internet service. She did say that FEMA is ‘everywhere’ and doing a great job. Things are a mess, and supplies have to be flown in but it’s not going to be repaired over night.

I have heard that FEMA is giving $750 per individual or family but I don’t know how to go about applying for it. They are turning a lot of people down. I make $963 per month, my car insurance is due in 2 weeks, $510 for 6 months of coverage. My renters insurance is due the week after $173 for the year. My ancestry.com is $119, I have a gallon of gas left in the car. My little dog just had her yearly vet check up, $249. She has to have food and I would like to have a little more than canned food now and then. I am lucky I stocked up on toilet paper. We have electricity and TV now. My TV is $193.25 a month. My electric water and sewer bill will probably be out the roof because we will have to pay for all of this cleanup, etc. That’s the way Newport utility board works. I don’t know how I am going to make it I would dearly love to know how to get in touch with someone to get an application from FEMA for that money, even just for one month. Sorry to complain, I will figure out something. We are MOUNTAIÑSTRONG!!! MUCH LOVE TO ALL, GENIE, COCKE. COUNTY, TENNESSEE.
