Our rector had to be out of state yesterday, so he asked me last week if I’d be willing to do the traditional service of Lessons and Carols on the 29th – yesterday. “The musician has the list of hymns so you’re all set.”
No problem.
The Squire and I got to church a little early so I could get robed, but there was no sign of the musician. We waited. And waited. And waited. At nearly quarter past the hour, The Squire dragged out his cell phone and called. We woke him up.
I stumbled through Morning Prayer – thank God and Thomas Cranmer for the Book of Common Prayer – and made my apologies to the members of the congregation.
I am not happy with the musician.
I went by to sneak a peak online and thought my computer was having volume issues at first. It was so good to see you doing the Morning Prayer.
I was so far out of it, so angry and shaken that I didn’t do a very good job. Somebody asked me why I didn’t use one of my dad’s sermons. I would have, had I had time. Apparently, the musica had been ill since last night – it would have been nice if he’d have called to let us know.
Alyssa and I rang in the new year in the ER. She tested positive for COVID but also has a UTI and an infection in her mouth. I hope that you and the squire stay healthy.
I think I would have had a few Choice words for the musician that were not quite suitable for church. But remember, I was in the Navy for a few years so I know a few Choice words.
