Many years ago, when I was still in high school, my girl friend and I were up in her attic reading National Geographic magazines and drinking iced tea. Lynn’s mum called to her and she went down to see what was up, telling me she’d be right back.
Sometime later I floated to the surface and realized it was getting dark, and Lynn hadn’t come back. I went downstairs to discover the house was empty. They had gone out and forgotten I was up in the attic, with my nose in a magazine.
I went on home, carefully locking the kitchen door behind me as I left.
WOW! That must have been scary as how could they forget you in the house! Luckily you could exit else you will be holed up till they return. You are quite a reader!
This was in the late 50s, and we lived less than a block apart, so it really wasn’t much of a problem. I kept waiting for her to come back, and then got lost in a magazine, and there I was. Back then, with very little TV available, everybody was a reader.
Reading is a good habit and I feel that English is better written with the older generation as these days, English has watered down to include popular slang words. The younger ones may not comprehend or appreciate syntax, grammar etc. My school teacher taught me Queen’s English LOL then I lived in USA and learnt fun English which includes slang. 😃I love learning English. Honestly I have not read a book in ages as everything is online…too much to read.
