It’s Going to be a Long Winter

8 Sep

I found these when I went out to get the newspaper this morning.  I’ve never seen such huge acorns. Ever.                                                      DSCN0727

First time seeing green acorns. I only saw dried up ones on campus in Oregon.

Normally, acorns are brown. The color was what caught my eye. That and the fact that they were large enough to trip over.

while we were in the scouting program in Maryland, there was a gentleman who would look at the size of squirrel nests to judge the winter– the bigger the worse the winter. I could never decide if a nest was larger than in other years. However, I have found the weather lore of the first frost will occur 90 days after the first time you hear the cicadas has been pretty accurate.
