The Squire and I celebrated at home together this afternoon, just the two of us. We had invited a recently widowed friend, but he told us he didn’t feel up to it just yet.
We pulled out all the stops, even used the gallery tray and the sterling. I’d purchased a spatchcocked chicken about a month ago, and it was plenty for the two of us. The Squire fixed his world-famous mashed potatoes and I made a pumpkin pie. A packet of nuked mixed vegetable, and we were all set. The wine is a light, sweet one called “Naughty and Nice” – perfect for dessert.
And no dinner chez Rice Paddy is complete without a crossword puzzle or two!

Happy Thanksgiving! I chuckled when I saw the crossword puzzles. Do you two ever compete with the same puzzle to see who wins? We had a rather pleasant day here..Tyler had to work so we had dinner when he got home. We ended up with a rather huge turkey but turkey leftovers go quickly in our house– and whatever is left becomes turkey soup next week. Alyssa’s classes went fully online after Thanksgiving so we have one more week and then finals.
We don’t really compete. The Baltimore Sun has two crossword puzzles – the New York Times, and the LA Times. These we normally do at breakfast. They also have a word search and a TV crossword, which we do with dinner. Supper time, we read books. We’ll be married 46 years tomorrow, and have pretty much run out of things to talk about.
